The New England Digital Synclavier has a rich history. Though this following video is a little-bit short on its research, it does a decent job introducing the mystique this technology has earned in history as well as the beginning of the digital audio era.
Synclavier is still alive. That’s how solidly these machines were designed and built. And because they sound so good!
Mine is a 3200, built in the late 80s or early 90s. I don’t know if it operates yet. “The Synclavier Project” will be my documentation of its restoration. My goal is to get it operating back to spec and then using its unique advantages in my current productions.
I have two keyboards, one of which is in my studio, inert. The other VP/K and short tower live in the garage. When I have time between projects, I will work on it! My first goal is a thorough cleaning – before I think about hitting that power button…
