Summary of October meeting

Our third “Deep Listening in Central Florida” meeting!

Our largest group to date. A few guests were 2nd timers from the August meeting – we’re developing a community!  A wide spread of ages were there, an electronic music producer came for the first time with his daughter. Percussion instruments were handed to some; others brought their instruments, or played the beautiful Kawai grand. An acoustic guitar was present, sitting on Timucua’s stage floor near the piano. Off, quietly at the side, one musician explored a Yamaha Reface DX. Tambourines, small hand drums and other metallic instruments were behind.

Please spread the word and let people know that a Deep Listening group is forming in Orlando. This is for everyone – a safe place to explore. There are no mistakes in DL, just sounds to hear!

We will slowly grow into a tight community forged in the heart of sound with heightened sensitivity, emotional vulnerability and shared spirit.

10/16 Sonic Meditation RECORDING

As in previous meetings, the wonderful ACS house system of Timucua was cranked up to simulate a very large reflective space. Such an acoustic environment transforms every sound into something sonorous, heard in a new way. The recording was made with an ambisonic kit using a SoundField SPS200 in the middle of the room. This month, instead of creating a surround recording for the site, I decided to use the ambisonics to create a stereo file.

Lia Sanger was our reader, and this recording comes from the last 7 minutes of this piece.
